Ireland gets its name from the Gaelic name "Éire" which is derived from Ériu, a significant figure in Irish mythology.

Ériu was one of the three legendary goddesses associated with the land, along with her two sisters, Banba and Fódla. According to Celtic mythology, when the Milesians, a mythical Celtic people, sought to settle in Ireland, they made a pact with the Tuatha Dé Dannan, the supernatural inhabitants of the land.  Ériu, one of the three sisters, lent her name to the land, and it became known as Éire. It has now been anglicised as "Ireland." The name Éire reflects the deep cultural and mythological roots embedded in Ireland's nomenclature.
